Confidential Free Pregnancy Tests and Limited Ultrasounds
Staff and volunteers treat you with compassion and respect as they assist you with free pregnancy testing and pregnancy-options consultation. A Hope Center is a limited-medical facility and offers free (first
trimester) limited ultrasounds if your test indicates pregnancy and you
meet the criteria set forth by our Medical Director. The American Pregnancy Association recommends testing for pregnancy if you have been sexually active and
are experiencing any symptoms of pregnancy.
A Hope Center is committed to giving accurate abortion education, but does not perform abortions or refer clients to abortion facilities. |

When should I take a pregnancy test?
Accuracy; The free pregnancy tests administered by A Hope Center are over 99% accurate and sensitive
enough to detect pregnancy as early as 7 to 10 days after conception.
Positive and negative pregnancy tests: Because most women ovulate mid-cycle (around day 14 in a 28 day cycle) it is possible to have a positive pregnancy test at A Hope Center before a missed period. This would be a very early positive result. Any negative test (especially a negative test before a missed period) should be repeated after a week or more without the onset of menstrual flow. False-negative tests are more likely very early in a pregnancy. A positive test means there is hcg pregnancy hormone present at a level high enough to indicate a probable pregnancy. A negative test means that hcg is not detected at that level. Our urine pregnancy tests display a control line to show the test is working and display another line when hcg hormone is detected. Any second line, even a faint line, represents a positive test. When only the control line appears, a negative test is indicated. If you are taking a home pregnancy test, please read the package directions or consult with the test manufacturer to interpret your results. Free nurse-administered pregnancy tests are available at A Hope Center to help you with these issues.

Plan B
Plan B must be taken
within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse.
Also known as Emergency Contraception (EC) and the Morning After Pill (MAP) this drug is intended to prevent pregnancy when the usual method of contraception was not used or obviously failed. Even though this drug is now widely and easily available, we suggest you think about the following when considering an EC:
1) The Plan B total dosage of progestin is 15 times the normal dose of some low-dose birth control pills. Birth control pills must be prescribed and supervised by a doctor and yet, Plan B does not have the same potential patient-protecting requirements. This inconsistent message about the supervision of your healthcare leads us to recommend that you contact your OB-GYN or family care physician about using Plan B.
2) Plan B's window for effective action against a pregnancy is small relative to the length of your cycle. Ask yourself—Do I want to expose myself to a comparatively large dose of hormone "just in case" I am within the window of possible fertilization?
3) Plan B and other ECs are considered possible abortifacients (drugs with an abortion action) by many in the medical field. Consider your personal feelings on the issue of abortion before going forward.

Confirming a positive home pregnancy test
If you had a home pregnancy test and believe the result was positive,
A Hope Center would be glad to confirm your result with a free
pregnancy test administered by a nurse. A positive result will allow us
to provide you with a positive pregnancy test confirmation form that is
accepted at other agencies. We will also talk with you about your
specific situation and offer you our services as well as appropriate community referrals.
A Hope Center is committed to giving accurate abortion education, but does not perform abortions or refer clients to abortion facilities. |
